Anthony Frost :

Today Anthony Frost visited our shop.  What started off as a conversation about Can and 6music resulted in a trade of pin badges and Graf seeming genuinely impressed and chuffed that stuff like this hadn’t happened on his day off as it usually does!  Anthony Frost’s art work was used in The Fall’s artwork (extricate/Imperial Wax Solvent) and what’s more he studied at the Cardiff Collage of Art.  Anthony Frost also did the painting featured on Gindrinker’s split 7″ with Joy of Sex that came out last year on I Blame the Parents label. Anyway – he was on his way to Pembroke so we couldn’t keep him long .. just long enough to send him ege bamyasi and The Joy Formidable’s album with the promise of a Gindrinker badge to follow in the post.

NEW RELEASES 07.03.11

alt
The BIIIIG news this week is that after being out of print for (stone)Ages, Queens of The Stone Age’s debut album gets a long overdue reissue on expanded LP and CD.  Mighty mighty overjoyed JOY!  There’s no saying how long the LP version will stick out for so don’t be daft and miss out again … do opportunities like this come round twice very often? I ask you !!

Elbow release their anticipated new album this week (though out of extreme respect for our customers I must let you know the LP version is an exclusive to the band’s website and I had to wrestle that info from our sources y’know!) …. anyhow … no bitterness here! If you want to bag the limited CD version (which comes with no extra content *but* does have some gold shiny stuff on the front cover!) then don’t dilly dally as these will be gone after the initial pressing has run out.

Ace records release a truly Ace compilation (Volume 12) this week.  Both Radio 4 listeners and John Peel enthusiasts alike will recognize the Dick Dale tune ‘Let’s Go Tripping’, just one of 30 hot Rock n Roll finds on this sizzling release.

What to make of the Matt (IT Crowd) Berry album then? … Comparisons so far liken it to folksy days Gorky’s and Donovan … What is for sure is that it certainly isn’t like anything you’d imagine it would be like and let’s be fair – the art work is a dream!

With his mish mash blues and foot stomping flare we can see Lewis Floyd Henry becoming a bit a hit.  He’s akin to Seasick Steve and CW Stoneking and definitely one to watch and watch him you can!  See here for not one but two South Wales dates coming up! http://www.lewisfloydhenry.com/news.html

Last but not least – you can pre-order your Funeral For A Friend album ahead of their instore signing …. that’s happening on the day of release next Monday.

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND SIGNING

SEPERADO! Proud Stockists of ….

We’re pleased as punch to be stockists of the wonderfully engaging and informative film by Gruff Rhys.  While Gruff hunts down long lost relative Rene Griffiths after recalling childhood memories of seeing a caped crooner on S4C he skillfully tells the fascinating history of the Welsh people’s exodus to Patagonia.  The film raises the subject of identity and Nationality pertinent to the next item for your attention ……

REAL RECORD CLUB : STARTING 20.3.11

GET INVOLVED ! / Acts of Kindness !!

Our window display tribute to Gruff’s Hotel Shampoo album has come along *very* nicely thanks to contributions from Bethan Elfyn and shop regular (and tour manager wizard) Fiona …. Come and have a look at all the pretty bottles on display.  We will be donating these lovely bottles of bubbly cleanliness to a local women’s refuge once we are done with them (good idea Bethan!) We’re still welcoming contributions to our display if you fancy a clear out…..
